GRID 2016 SET FOR GREEK SHOWDOWN

29-30 October 2016

Athens Marathon

Gymkhana GRiD , a unique style of motocross racing held inside an enclosed area, makes its debut in Marathonas, Greece, on October 29th-30th. The following is from the Gymkhana GRiD website:

Gymkhana will be heading to the home of the legendary Acropolis Rally for a one of a kind weekend of tire smoke, flames, and sideways competition.

Making its international debut at X Games in Los Angeles in 2013, Gymkhana GRiD is all about speed and precision. Held on a 100 metre x 100 metre open space of asphalt called the GRiD, each driver must record a time by completing a lap of two custom designed courses which include a pre-determined sequence of drifts, figure 8s, donuts, and slaloms. Split into two classes, drivers go head to head in All Wheel Drive (AWD) and Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) tyre slaying machinery.

The Gymkhana GRiD course itself features obstacles associated with the many sponsors of the series – cones, tyres, barrels and K-rail, which the drivers maneuver around with the least amount of mistakes. Drivers must perform reversals, 180-degree spins, 360-degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s and other advanced maneuvers. Drifting is also encouraged where helpful or necessary.
