Museum of Byzantine Culture Awarded
Thessaloniki's Museum of Byzantine Culture won the gold medal recently at AVICOM, the International Audiovisual Festival for Museums and Cultural Heritage. The museum's winning entry was a 23-minute film called The Return, which marked the 20th anniversary of the Museum's opening to the public. The film outlines the history of the Museum and its connection with the rich Byzantine past of Thessaloniki, whose world-famous monuments have earned he city the nickname of 'the greatest outdoor Byzantine museum in the world.' The film also highlights the ongoing work of the museum in the midst of Greece's ongoing financial crisis.
The Museum of Byzantine Culture's effort was selected out of 33 entries representing museums and cultural heritage institutions from around the world, with the award ceremony being held in Budapest this past November 22.
