Thessaloniki Welcomes the New Year With Fireworks and Fun
The sky of Thessaloniki will be illuminated by about 3,000 fireworks throughout the city, in an event sponsored by the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce. The extravaganza will last 8 minutes, beginning at the seafront at Aristotle Square. The impressive project will be undertaken by Nanos brothers, who have won seven global awards for fireworks displays.
Besides the fireworks, a parade will begin Saturday, December 31, from different points around Aristotle Square, at 18:30. The square will be filled with people, entertainment, songs and melodies. At the height of the event, the old year will be bid a farewell by Mayor Yiannis Boutaris, with wishes for a better year.
The farewell to 2016 will continue to swing to the sounds of blues, jazz and Greek music by the Speakeasy Swing Band,with DJ, until just before midnight.
