Another First For the Athens Airport
Athens' International Airport has claimed first place in its category (from 4-20 million annual passengers) in the largest conference of Europe's aviation industry, Routes Europe 2016. Within the industry, Routes is an important institution, and the honor is one to be proud of.
Airline companies evaluate support programs various airports have in place, their effectiveness in developing new services in response to demand, their efforts to develop new routes as needs arise, and how well they strengthen the effectiveness of ongoing routes and their presence in the local market. Athens airport has piled up 15 awards in 12 years, making it the most award-winning airport in the world during that time frame.
The Routes Europe conference in 2016 was held in Krakow, Poland. Director of Communications for AIA, Ioanna Papadopoulou, states: "I would like to express my warm gratitude to the European airline companies who have, once more, acknowledged us at the Europe-wide level with their vote, renewing their trust in us."
