First Greek Ancient DNA Analysis Unit Opens
The Institute of Molecular Biology of the Crete-based Foundation for Research and Technology Institute (FORTH), on the occasion of the opening of the Ancient DNA Analysis Unit of Forth's Institute of Molecular Biology, recently hosted an international conference entitled Ancient DNA Analysis: A New Look at the Past in Heraklion, Crete.
The newly established unit for ancient DNA analysis is the first in Greece and the third in Europe. It is expected to open new avenues for the promotion of Greece's cultural heritage supported by archeological research, building a bridge between the Humanities and the Natural Sciences.
Mr. Costas Fotakis, Deputy Minister of Education in charge of research innovation, emphasized the importance of this unit in remarks during the ceremony opening the unit, saying that it supports and promotes the cultural heritage of Greece and gives us new research opportunities.
