The Olympic Festival Has Begun
Known as the biggest cultural event in Pieria (the region of northern Greece around Mt. Olympus), the Olympic Festival has just begun and will be running until the 28th of August. The festival will be a mixed venue offering of theatrical performances, concerts, art exhibitions, folk dance performances, and other cultural events. The Festival annually attracts thousands of locals and tourists.
This year's program includes works of ancient tragedy such as Seven Against Thebes, Lysistrata, The Oresteia, and The Persians.
The venues used during the Festival include places of major historical and archaeological importance such as the Ancient Theatre of Dion, the Platamona Castle, the Byzantine church of the Panagia in Kontariotissa, and others.
