Conde Nast Puts 2 Greek Beaches in World’s Top 10
Conde Nast Traveler rated the world’s top 10 beaches, and coming in at numbers 1 and 3 are two beautiful Greek beaches. Number 1 is Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia, and number 3 is Navagio or Shipwreck Beach in Zakinthos. Both islands are part of the Eptanese, the 7 islands in the Ionian sea just off the west coast of Greece.
Of the two beaches, Conde Nast had the following to say:
Though all the beaches on the Ionian island of Kefalonia are beautiful, Myrtos is arguably the fairest of them all. Its sand is so white that it’s practically iridescent, and its water is so blue you almost have to see it to believe it. Throw in a killer sunset every night, and you’ve got the most Instagrammable beach in Europe (no filter needed).
Also known as Shipwreck Beach due to the freighter buried at its center, Navagio is easily the most beautiful stretch of sand in Greece. It’s sheltered by sheer limestone cliffs and is so isolated that you can only access it by boat. While you can spend all day sunning on its powdery sands, its beauty is best appreciated from the viewing platform in the cliffs above (just follow the signs to the Agios Gergio Kremnao monastery).
