Positive Signs For 2016 Greek Tourism

Greece’s tourism industry continues to grow after 2015’s record-setting year, with a 4.4% increase the first half of the year over the same period in 2016, according EOT, Greece’s tourism’s ministry.

Greece has proven to be an island of stability in a part of the world wracked by terror, war, unrest, and political uncertainty. In the midst of all of this Greece’s safety record has been outstanding.

Some stats of arrivals in Greece from abroad and their increase over last year include Russia (+22.7%), Great Britain (+8.6%), Germany (+7.2%), France (+6.9%), and Italy (+4.6%).

On the other side of the coin, some countries have sent fewer tourists this year. This includes The Netherlands (-10.2%), Belgium (-6.4%), the Czech Republic (-14.4%) and Austria (-6%).

Among popular destinations, the largest rise recorded in Corfu (+11.5%) and Heraklion, Crete (+11%), Mykonos (+11%) and Santorini (+10.5%).

An increase of 8.9% for the month of July and by 10.1% in August compared with the same period last months is projected.
