ITB Berlin: Up to 70% Increase of 2017 Package Tour Demand to Greece
ITB Berlin (Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin) is the world’s largest tourism trade fair held every March in Berlin, Germany. This year’s fair is ongoing, having opened on March 8th, and will conclude on March 12th.
This year’s fair brings very positive news for the Greek tourism industry, with projections of double-digit growth in projected bookings for package tours from Germany to Greece as compared to 2016, says the President of the Association of Travel Germany Agencies DRV, Mr. Norbert Fiebig at the ITB trade fair.
Greek Minister of Tourism Elena Kountoura has already held meetings with representatives of leading tour operators at the fair and the evidence so far suggests that the demand for package tours to Greece in 2017 will increase by 30% - 70%.
Present at the trade fair were chief executives and almost all tourist agencies and companies in the country. Among them was the President of Mouzenidis Group, Mr. Boris Mouzenidis. Mr. Mouzenidis also met with Minister Kountoura.
Minister Kountoura participated in a round table of national Tourism Ministers under the initiative for Sustainable Tourism Development in Local Communities of the Silk Road, organized by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, UNWTO. Sustainable tourism aims for tourism which makes as little impact on the local environment as possible. The Silk Road nations include most of Mediterranean Europe, all of the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and most of Asia.
Minister Kountoura also announced that in April in Alexandroupolis the first international workshop under the initiative of the World Tourism Organization and the EU program "Western Silk Road" will be held. The workshop will be co-organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Region Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
