Where Are Greeks Headed For Their Upcoming 3-Day Holiday?
August 15th marks the feast day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Greece’s 3rd most important religious holiday, during which the country pretty much shuts down, and many Greeks travel. A rule of thumb for any tourist is to find out where the locals go, and to go there.
With that in mind, where will Greeks travel for the upcoming holiday? Grabbing the top five spots are Chania, Crete, Parga, on Greece’s west coast near the southern tip of Corfu, the island of Naxos, little-known Sivota, on Greece’s northwest coast, and the island of Skiathos. Rounding out the top ten are Skopelos, Rhodes, the Peloponnesian port of Nafplio, and Rethymno, Crete.
